This past Monday, I had the immense pleasure of doing a demonstration for the Upper Hudson Valley Watercolor Society. It was great fun being able to talk 'shop talk' with like-minded folks! The room was filled, so there were lots of comments and questions, which I love. Here is the demo in four parts.
This is the drawing with the initial wash. The paper was soaked on both sides and I washed on the main colors that were going to be used.
I begin my paintings in the center of interest because it is when I have the most enthusiasm for the painting; I am tackling the initial reason why I wanted to do the painting. Hopefully that energy and excitement for the subject will show through.
At this point, I am most concerned with color balance and values.
This is the time to add the cherry on top: details! Since it is a Key West painting, it had to have roosters in it. If you have ever been in Key West, you will know what I mean. If you click on my
Watercolors page, you will see more detail.
